Here at Goosepool House we are so proud to be located right next to one of the region’s most important places, Teesside Airport. The people of Teesside are proud of this airport and at we know just how lucky we are to have this local landmark on our doorstep. A little bit of time away from our main location has given us the opportunity to think about just how much we love Teesside. Below we tell you about some things that you may not have known about the place we call home!
In the Teesside area, just like the rest of the North East, football is a huge part of people’s lives. The main team in Teesside is Middlesbrough FC. Long before the well-known Riverside Stadium that we know now, you had Ayresome Park. This stadium has some weird and wonderful history associated with it. It once featured in the 35th edition of the Guinness Book of Records for having largest reported advertising hoarding, which was painted on the roof of the North Stand by sponsor Heritage Hampers. Also, during the 1966 World Cup, the North Korean team stayed on Teesside and beat Italy at Ayresome Park. They trained at the ICI chemical works, where many locals would turn up to watch them practice.
Teesside is full of Landmarks from Roseberry Topping to Ormesby Hall, we really do have a lot to be proud of. One of the most loved landmarks is the Transporter Bridge in Middlesbrough. Did you know that is the only place in the UK where you can bungee jump from a bridge? Whilst not in Teesside, one of the North East’s best-known landmarks is the Angel of the North. We bet you didn’t know that the sculpture was actually created in the Tees Valley!
Teesside has produced some of the greatest people in history, the most well-known being Captain James Cook who is seen as one of the most legendary explorers of all time. Other famous Teessiders include the magician Paul Daniels, 2012 Olympic Gold Medallist Rower Kat Copeland and Billy Elliot actor Jamie Bell.
